Leo J. Hoffman, 89 of Rome, NY, passed away pm April 28, 2024, after a life well lived. Born on November 11, 1934, he was the son of Leo J. Hoffman and Margaret Dicob Hoffman. Following graduation from high school Leo furthered his education and received his baccalaureate degree from Potsdam. Leo had a successful career as a machinist at Varflex in Rome, NY where he was employed for over 40 years. Leo was united in marriage to Ann M. Chielewski, the two shared a blessed union until her passing in 1983. He later married Patricia Hughes whom he shared a wonderful life until her passing in 2021. 

Leo was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed time spent in the woods hunting, a day at the lake or nearby creek fishing, or a sunny day at the golf course; if it was outside, Leo would enjoy it. Leo was a kindhearted man; he was honest as the day is long with a genuine care and concern for everyone. He had a gift to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated. Leo was an active member at Zion Episcopal Church, a place where he made each Christmas special with his decorating skills. He also could be found working in the church's Food Pantry. If there was a way that Leo could give to his community or church, he was sure to help. Leo enjoyed time spent with friends and family, he will be greatly missed by everyone fortunate enough to have met him. 

Leo is survived by his sons David (Darlene Hastings) Hoffman, Scott Hoffman; his daughters Kimberly (Douglas) Griffith and Lynn (Tom) McDermott; his sister Sarah (Ron) O'Leary; stepchildren David and Michael Hughes; eight beloved grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Ann Chielewski, his second wife Patricia Hughes; his daughter Susan Wilson; brother Joseph Hoffman; sister Sue Gafney   

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, from 5pm-7pm at Strong- Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome. Funeral Services will be held at 10am Friday. May 3, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rome. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Zion Episcopal Church Food Pantry.
