Boonville- Gary B. Ritter, 72, of Main Street, formerly of Forestport and husband of the late Sandra M., passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, after a long illness, at The Presbyterian Home for Central New York, in New Hartford.

He was born in New Hartford, on August 10, 1951, a son of Ralph E. “Chuck” and Ruth Ann Williams Ritter.  Gary grew up on the North Lake Road, near Forestport and attended Forestport Central School, through his mid high school years.  He completed his high school education, graduating from Adirondack Central High School, Boonville, with The Class of 1969.  While attending school in Forestport he was a member of the Basketball team and a member of the Track team at Adirondack in Boonville. 

From 1976 until his honorable discharge in 1980, Mr. Ritter served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in the United States and in Germany.

After serving his country Gary furthered his education earning an Associate Degree, in Electrical Engineering, at MVCC, Utica, before advancing to earning a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, at SUNY IT, Utica.

Gary was united in marriage with Sandra M. Lombardo, on June 12, 1986, in Forestport.  Mrs. Ritter passed away on March 5, 2022. 

He was employed at A.T.& T., before several years of employment as a snow plow operator and heavy equipment operator for the NYS DOT Highway Department, Alder Creek.  His last employment was as a Welfare Examiner at Oneida County Department of Social Services, Utica.

Gary is survived by one daughter, Aimee A. Ritter, Forestport; one brother and sister in law, Mark (Mary) Ritter, Forestport; an aunt, Eileen Ritter, Goldsboro, NC, a niece, Sarah (Brian) Nichols, Forestport; nephew, Michael Ritter, Forestport, 2 great nephews, Paul and Alexander Nichols, Forestport.  In

His Funeral will be on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where calling hours will be from 12 Noon until the funeral.  Interment will follow in Beechwood cemetery, Forestport.  Memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Association of CNY, P.O. Box 38, Liverpool, NY 13088.
