LEWIS COUNTY- Residents are being recruited to take an Agriculture Enhancement Survey, according to Casandra Buell, Senior Planner of the Planning Department.

Last spring, Lewis County was awarded $50,000.00 from NYS Agriculture & Markets to update the 2004 Agricultural Enhancement Plan. This Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan is designed to identify land or areas proposed to be protected and will describe activities, programs and strategies intended to be used to promote continued agricultural use.

Over the course of 18 months, the designated Advisory Committee will work with a consultant to develop an Agricultural and Farmland Protection Plan that is customized for Lewis County.

In addition to the monthly committee meetings, there will be several community outreach meetings held to solicit public involvement, feedback and vision. Buell says officials would like to have the survey completed towards the end of the month.
