LOWVILLE- Nearly 3,000 Lewis County residents have received their first vaccine dose to protect against COVID-19.

Furthermore, nearly 1,000 residents have received their second dose of vaccine as well, officials report.

The announcement is according to the office Lewis County Board of Legislators.

"To those waiting anxiously for a vaccine, your patience is appreciated. We understand the registration system can be frustrating, but know that we are making progress," County Manager Ryan Piche said in a released statement.

"We continue to ask residents to refrain from calling Lewis County Public Health and Office for the Aging to book your vaccination appointment. There are currently zero appointments available, and those phone lines need to remain open for individuals dealing directly with COVID-19 illness or quarantine issues."

Unlike other counties who have ended up wasting unused vaccine, Lewis County officials report that since the process began its first steps 8-weeks ago, zero doses have been thrown out or sent back to the state.
