Reminder: Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alert tests this afternoon at 2:18pm, 2:20pm

Federal officials want you to be informed of today’s Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alert tests.

At 2:18pm, all cell phones connected to wireless providers that participate in the Wireless Emergency Alert system will receive a test message, including a header that reads: "Presidential Alert” and the notification saying: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed”.

Soon following at 2:20pm, an Emergency Alert System test will be conducted; similar to a regular monthly test you hear on the radio or see on television.

According to officials, the test was originally set for September 20, but was re-scheduled until today, due to ongoing relief efforts for the devastated areas from Hurricane Florence.
