Snowmobile Accident

OKARA LAKES- A pair of teenagers suffered non-life-threatening injuries after crashing their snowmobile sleds over the weekend in the town of Webb.

It was Sunday at around noontime when emergency responders were alerted to reports of a personal injury snowmobile accident on the railroad tracks near Okara Lakes.

Town of Webb Police Chief Ron Johnston says two 17-year-olds, one male and one female, were heading south on the tracks.

This is when an unknown obstruction caused the male’s sled to shift position and cause the female operator to strike the right side of the snowmobile.

The impact ejected the male off from his sled and down a steep railroad embankment, Chief Johnston said.

According to emergency responders, the female said she was unable to react in time for successfully avoiding a collision.

Old Forge Ambulance crews took both victims to area hospitals. Authorities described their injuries to be non-life-threatening.

Town of Webb Police received assistance from members of Old Forge Fire Department, Old Forge Ambulance and New York State Forest Rangers.
