OLD FORGE- Police say a local man who struck a deer with his pickup truck in the southern Adirondacks did so intentionally.

The incident occurred Saturday in Old Forge, according to the Town of Webb Police.

Police Chief Ron Johnston told us there were deer standing in the roadway between Old Forge Hardware and the fire station when Grady N. Boulier, 18, of Forestport, NY allegedly accelerated towards the deer at a high rate of speed.

Authorities say one of the deer was struck and dragged for some distance and was soon thrown off to the side of the roadway.

Chief Johnston said the injuries suffered were severe enough for the deer to be euthanized.

Boulier was charged by police for taking a deer while in a motor vehicle and taking a deer from a public highway, which are violations of Environmental Conservation Law.

Furthermore, Boulier was charged with purposely injuring an animal, which is a violation of Agriculture and Markets Law and also for unreasonable speeds.

He was issued with appearance tickets and is due to answer the charges in the Town of Webb Court at a later date.

The New York State DEC assisted with the investigation.
