WOODGATE- Investigators say a collision between two vehicles Thursday afternoon at the four corners in Woodgate claimed the life of a local woman.

Emergency responders were called out at around 1:00 p.m. to the corner of State Route 28 and Woodgate Road.

A portion of the roadway was shut down to allow responders to investigate the scene.

Per the latest updates from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Kirsten Down, 67, of Old Forge, NY was driving a 2018 Honda Accord and attempted turning out onto Route 28 from Woodgate Road to travel north.

This is when police said Down entered the intersection and was struck by a southbound Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by Jennifer Palermo, 43, of Old Forge, NY.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Down was pronounced deceased on scene.

Police say a five and ten-year-old child were in Palermo’s vehicle when the accident occurred. They were all taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica for evaluation of minor injuries, authorities said.

Although no tickets have been issued, deputies said the crash remains under investigation.
