BOONVILLE- The Adirondack Central School Board of Education communally accepted the resignation of Superintendent Kristy McGrath.

Board members voted during their latest meeting on Wednesday. In a statement sent to us, McGrath said she is moving on to an old position she once held at South Lewis – the District Curriculum and Data Coordinator.

With that said, officials say there were several attendees at the Wednesday meeting eager to learn more on the district’s proposed capital project.

There have been whispers circulating around the community regarding this development it seems for the last several weeks, but it is now confirmed that there are three possible scenarios that currently revolve around this proposed project.

The first involves ACS District maintaining all buildings as they stand, with significant projects to update both the Boonville and West Leyden Elementary Schools.

The second potential scenario involves closing West Leyden Elementary and moving fifth grade to the Middle School, while also updating Boonville Elementary.

Finally, the third and last potential scenario for this proposed capital project involves closing down both Boonville and West Leyden Elementary buildings and constructing an elementary complex at the middle and high school campus.

This is very similar what neighboring South Lewis District accomplished when they closed Glenfield and Port Leyden Elementary buildings and opened a new complex to form a single K-12 campus.

Remember, Adirondack Central closed down Forestport Elementary back in the spring of 2019 and there were concerns at that time among voters that West Leyden and Boonville would eventually be next.

For context, ACS officials said these latest proposals will not impact the start of the 2024 school year in the fall, but a realistic vote for district taxpayers could develop come winter of 2025.

Stay tuned for more details soon.
