The national average price for a gallon of fuel was flirting with $3.50 Tuesday morning, according to the AAA.

For context, the latest national average prices now are slightly higher than when compared to this time last year, when fuel prices ranged up to $3.44. Last month, the national average was $3.27.

Meanwhile, the average price in New York State remains slightly lower than the national average price as of this report at $3.38. A year ago now, New Yorkers were paying an average of $3.44.

“This is the time of year we normally see pump prices start to rise,” said Andrew Gross, AAA spokesperson. “And while prices have been rather pokey so far, they should begin to accelerate and move higher very soon.”
