The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration is in the works of making a move that would potentially reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug.

This update is according to the Associated Press.

The proposal via the U.S. Justice Department would essentially acknowledge the medical uses for marijuana, but wouldn’t recognize it for legal recreational use.

If enacted, the change would reclassify cannabis from the Schedule I group to the Schedule III group, which is less restricted in terms of regulations.

Before anything happens or any of what is proposed comes to fruition, the White House Office of Management and Budget must first review the measure.

Last-year, President Joe Biden reportedly requested that HHS and the Attorney General both review how marijuana was classified the same, in legal terms, with other substances, such as LSD, heroin and others.

If cannabis is reclassified, sources suggest that it doesn’t mean that it will automatically become legalized nationwide.
