EAST MARTINSBURG – Gloria DuFlo Brown, 86, of River Lock Farm of East Martinsburg, went to be with her Lord, whose yoke is easy and whose burden is light, on August 15, 2014, at her home, under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.

Born July 22, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Frank R. DuFlo and Bessie Henry DuFlo. She graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1946. On May 31, 1953, she married Allan D. Brown beneath a floral covered arbor on the front lawn where they still reside.

She loved music, was a long time member of the Lowville Methodist Church choir, and played the violin and piano. She was a talented artist, and was often commissioned to do paintings. She trained with the Famous Artist’s School in Connecticut. Nature studies and gardening were always a favorite activity. For many years she taught Sunday School classes and led youth groups.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband of 61 years, Allan; three children, Amy Lynn (Evan) Zehr of Lowville; Rebecca Arden Slye of Liverpool; and David Allan Brown of Lowville; four grandchildren, Jennifer Rae Sheehan of Brewerton; Hannah Aileen Zehr of Salt Lake City, Utah; Michael Christopher Slye of Media, PA; and Dr. Rachel Beth Zehr of Cooperstown; and three great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Donald L. DuFlo and Ralph F. DuFlo predeceased her.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Evan Zehr, son-in-law, officiating.
