LOWVILLE- Mary A. Konkol, 89, of 6574 River Road, died Sunday at Lewis County General Hospital.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman officiating. Burial will be in the Old Glendale Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the funeral home. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Barbara Konkol of Croghan; two nieces, Kathryn and her husband Graham Masters of Lincoln, California; Susan Konkol of Carson City, Nevada; two nephews, Donald Konkol of Glenfield, NY, John Konkol of Alexandria Bay, NY; a great-nephew, Nathan Konkol of McGuire A.F.B., New Jersey; two great-nieces, Annesha and Sarah Masters of Lincoln, California; and cousins. She is predeceased by three brothers, Joseph Konkol, who died in December 25, 2002, Stanley Konkol, who died May 7, 2004, and Martin Konkol who died April 27, 2012. Two brothers, Walter and Bennie and a sister, Sophie, died in infancy.
Miss Konkol was born on December 8, 1923, in Turin, NY, a daughter of the late John and Frances Sulich Konkol and attended two years of country school on the Houseville-Glenfield Road and graduated from General Martin High School in 1942. She worked on the family farm on the Houseville-Glenfield Road and entertained in the evenings playing her accordion. She moved from the family farm in 1975 with her brothers, Stanley and Joseph to Stanley’s log cabin that he built on the River Road in Watson. Miss Konkol was very gifted in music and started playing her accordion at age 16, and spent more than 40 years (1943-1983) entertaining, both alone and with the Mary Konkol Orchestra. She entertained at area Senior Citizen Clubs, Nursing Homes, and at many other local events.
She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Lowville; she was Past President of the Turin V.F.W. Post #8903; was a Life Member of the Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 Ladies Auxiliary, was a Life Member of the Polish American Citizens Club, Glenfield, a member of the Singing Water’s Senior Citizens Club, Lowville, A member of the Board of Directors of the Old Glendale Cemetery. She loved music, playing the accordion, singing, planting and taking care of flowers, she loved the trees and woods. She enjoyed listening to Tommy Dorsey, Harry James and Lawrence Welk.
