George's Tid Bits
by George Capron
The
following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during
his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on
the air during the week of December 3rd, 2007:
- MONDAY, DECEMBER 3: I received a
report to congratulate Troy Hance and Toni Lorenz of Arizona on the
birth, November 22, of a tiny daughter, Gabrielle Mercedes. She weighed
1-pound, 1-ounce, and was 11-1/2 inches long. Best wishes from Grandma
June, Tina, Bob, Taylor and Tonya. Happy 57th anniversary wishes go out
to Don and Kay Seelman of Constableville from Doug, Sue and family.
Richard and Shirley Tyner of Carthage observe their 52nd anniversary,
with best wishes from all their friends. Because of the snow and
freezing rain, 11 schools and colleges all had opening delays this
morning, with Adirondack and Remsen eventually closing. Singer/TV star
Andy Williams reaches his 80th birthday today. He was named Howard
Andrew Williams and was born in Wall Lake, Iowa, in 1927. He is still
performing at this Moon River Theater in Branson, Missouri, and has
shows starting tonight through December 11.
- TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4: Bill and
Arlene Grower of Boonville celebrate their 59th anniversary today, with
best wishes from granddaughter Marsha in Albany. Happy 90th birthday
wishes to Mae Hill of Valley View Court in Lowville from her family. I
received nine cards to wish her a special happy birthday. Yesterday, Stu
Bourgeois of Boonville celebrated his birthday. His friends say he’s too
young to be 80. Special wishes to Stu from the Lily Tomlin look-a-like.
On this morning in 1989, Watertown, NY, had the coldest temperature in
the U.S. with a minus 20-degree reading. Beaver River Station also
recorded a low of minus 20, with Highmarket at minus 13, and the Jackson
Hill Weather Station at minus 9.
- WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 5:
Lake-effect snow has been tracking south of Boonville this morning, so
driving has been good up this way. Yesterday, I started the Boonville
Chamber of Commerce snow phone reports covering snowmobile trail and
conditions, as well as weather forecasts. The number is 315-942-6823 and
is updated early each morning. Yesterday, I watched the cross-country
ski trail groomer come off the trail behind the Headwaters Plaza off
Route 12. It appears that the snow is here to stay. In automotive
history, Chrysler Corporation introduced the first American-made small
car with front-wheel drive, the Plymouth Horizon, in 1977. Ford
introduced their first V-8 engine and the first Model C automobile in
1932.
- THURSDAY, DECEMBER 6: Happy 38th
wedding anniversary wishes to Ted and Darlene Mooney of Penny Settlement
from Allen, Laurie, Marissa and Megan. After nearly 2-1/2 years of work
and planning, a snowmobile trail from Boonville to Port Leyden will
become a reality in the next two weeks. A bridge has to be constructed
this weekend near the Hells Kitchen Road, with much brushing to be
completed before using. The Lost Trail Snowmobile Club of Boonville
should be commended for their dedication to make this trail a reality.
Singer Roy Orbison died of a massive heart attack on this evening in
1988.
- FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7: We have some
impressive anniversaries and a birthday today. Happy 55th anniversary
wishes go out to Franklin and Dorothy Persons of Boonville from their
family. Chuck and Shirley Joslin of Turin celebrate their 50th
anniversary, with best wishes from sister Bev and brother-in-law Walt.
Formerly of Boonville and now of Herkimer, Vernon Lee celebrates his
101st birthday, with best wishes from Louise Zeigler. The day was
historic in 1965 when Chevrolet produced its 3 millionth car for the
year for the first time.
