George's Tid Bits
by George Capron

The following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on the air during the week of October 15th, 2007:

  • MONDAY, OCTOBER 15: On Saturday, Danielle Brasie and Clarence Davis Jr. were married at the Glenfield Methodist Church with congratulations from all her family. Also on Saturday, Becky Sturtevant and Richard Young of Lyons Falls welcomed the birth of a son, Dakota Dale Young, at 5 pounds, 4 ounces, with best wishes from family and friends. On Sunday, Matt and Kris Maurer of Saratoga, NY, became the parents of a daughter, Lily McComb, who will join a brother Thomas at home. Matt’s from West Leyden and Kris is from Speculator, with best wishes from their families. Today, Frank and Marylou Croniser of the West Road celebrate their 52nd anniversary, with congratulations from Barry, Jody and family. Yesterday, David and Onie Brown of Lyons Falls observed their 47th anniversary, with best wishes from their family. • TUESDAY, OCTOBER 16: On Saturday, our class of ’62 enjoyed a mini reunion in Freddy’s banquet room in Boonville, with 18 original classmates and two wives enjoying some great memories. We had such a great time that everyone agreed that we should get together again in the next few years. Folklore indicates that today is St. Gallo’s Day, and if no rain falls, a dry spring will follow. Today, Sylvia Zeigler celebrates her 80th birthday, and tomorrow Nora Wiedmer will celebrate her 80th, with best wishes from the Zeiglers. In 1958, Chevrolet introduced the first El Camino, but it was not a big seller and was discontinued two years later. Four years later, a smaller version was offered and was a big success.

  • WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17: Happy 54th wedding anniversary wishes to my sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Chan Willoughby of Boonville, and it’s also her birthday, with best wishes from all the family. Doug and Carol Smith of Ohio, NY, celebrate their 43rd anniversary, with congratulations from their four children and eight grandchildren. Singer Glen Campbell received two gold albums today in 1968 for his albums, “By The Time I Get To Phoenix” and “Gentle On My Mind.” Motorcycle stuntman, Evel Knievel, was born in Butte, Montana, in 1938.

  • THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18: Happy 27th anniversary wishes to Marty and Debbie Shue of Port Leyden, from their children and Mom and Dad Lallier. The employees of Community Bank in Boonville wish Karen Pawlicki of Boonville a happy retirement as today is her final day. Cookies and coffee were offered at the Main Street branch office. Rock and roll legend Chuck Berry was born in San Jose, California, 81 years ago. Historically, the U.S. took possession of Alaska in 1867 and it became our 49th state on January 3, 1959. Alaska now produces 25 percent of America’s oil and over 50 percent of our seafood. A moose came back for the second time at the Croniser farm on the West Road in 2000. In 1989, Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks measured one inch of new snow this morning.

  • FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19: Happy 44th anniversary wishes to Jonathan Zehr of Castorland from his wife Elsie. Gary and Denise LaVancha of Lowville observed their 39th anniversary with best wishes from their children and 10-1/2 grandchildren. One of our village postmen, Pup Leffingwell of Boonville, celebrates his birthday today, with love from wife Karen and family. Country singer Jeannie C. Riley, of “Harper Valley PTA” fame, was born in Anson, Texas, 62 years ago. Her first appearance at the Boonville Fair in 1973 brought one of the biggest crowds ever, then appeared again in 1984. “Harper Valley” received the “Song of the Year” honors from the Country Music Association.
