following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during
his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on
the air during the week of September 17th, 2007:
- MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17: Happy 52nd
anniversary wishes to Don Schue of Boonville from wife Mary. At this
time of the year, the moose sightings begin. In three past years there
were reports in various locations: In 1996 at the Karpinski farm on the
East Road , in 1997 behind the Town of Webb School in Old Forge, and in
1998 on Route 812 in Croghan, all on this day. Yesterday afternoon, Ryan
Helmer and Jennifer Ward of Remsen were married in Washington Mills,
with congratulations from the Ward family. Former Lowville residents now
living in Cortland, Joe and Caron LaVancha, became parents of triplets
on Friday evening . One boy and two girls will go home to meet their
sister at home. The proud grandparents are Gary and Denise LaVancha of
Lowville. Cassandra Peterson, best known as “Elvira, Mistress of the
Dark” was born in Manhattan, Kansas, 56 years ago and still makes
personal appearances. Country music legend Hank Williams Sr. was born in
Georgiana, Alabama, in 1923.
- TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 18: Happy 42nd
anniversary wishes to Christine Yager of Constableville from husband Ed.
Also on this morning in 2001, Ed spotted a moose on his farm on the
Zimmer Road, and on the same morning a black panther was seen by Roger
Beyel near West Leyden. Ford Motor Company celebrated the production of
their 2,000,000 V-8 engine in 1955. In 1851, The New York Times was
published for the first time. Singer-actor Frankie Avalon was born in
Philadelphia 67 years ago. Rock star Jimi Hendrix died at the age of 27
in London.
- WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19: Everett
and Doris Lehman of Kirschnerville celebrate their 54th anniversary
today, with best wishes from their seven children and their families.
Happy 43rd anniversary wishes to Carl and June Kellogg of Lowville from
family and friends. Liz Western of Pine Grove Road in Watson observes
her 94th birthday with congratulations from her family. Best remembered
as TV’s “Batman,” actor Adam West, a native of Walla Walla, Washington,
is 77 today. This morning in 1995 found a moose crossing over Jackson
Hill. Singer Chubby Checker had a number one song, “The Twist” in 1960
and reached number one again in November 1961. It’s the only song to hit
the top spot twice on the charts in music history.
- THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 20: Happy
38th anniversary wishes to David and Terry Bush of Boonville from their
family. Warren and Sue Levensailor celebrate their 32nd anniversary,
with happy wishes from daughter Vanessa. Ken Sliter of Lyons Falls is 87
today from his wife Joyce. In 1979, the Jackson Hill Weather Station
measured a low temperature of 28 degrees , 24 degrees at the radio
station with snow flakes at noon in Old Forge and Montague. In 1994, a
moose was seen in Turin and arrived in Constableville a short time
later. She still has a beautiful voice. Gogi Grant, best remembered for
her hit song, “The Wayward Wind” in 1956, celebrates her 83rd birthday.
A native of Philadelphia, she appeared a couple of years ago on a PBS
special and performed that hit song and sounded great.
- FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21: Dave
Wawrzyniak and Laura Nitte will be married tomorrow in the Masonic
Chapel in Utica, with happy wishes from their families. Happy 59th
anniversary wishes to June Edick from husband Don in Martinsburg. Sally
and Ed Bullis of Constableville will celebrate their 50th anniversary
today, with congratulations from family and friends. Clem and Wilma Bush
of Lowville also celebrate their 50th anniversary today, with happy
wishes from Jeff, Caron, Tim, and Matt. Country music superstar Faith
Hill was born in Jackson, Mississippi, 40 years ago. The first Plymouth
Valiant rolled off the assembly line in Hamtramck, Michigan in 1959. A
car owner on Grove Street in Boonville drove his Red Valiant in the
Woodsmen's Parade this year.
