following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during
his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on
the air during the week of September 1st, 2008:
- MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 (LABOR DAY):
What a beautiful day off for outdoor activities. Almost all reporting
stations reached 75 degrees.
- TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2: Happy 48th
anniversary wishes to Barney and Bobbie Deshaies of Boonville from
Michelle, Ron and family. Yesterday, Barry and Jody Croniser of
Boonville celebrate their 29th anniversary, with congratulations from
their family.
- WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3: Happy
49th anniversary wishes on Friday to Dale and Barb Ferris of the
Hogsback Road, Boonville, from Rich, Laurie and family. Marie Mooney of
Lowville celebrates her 90th birthday today, with congratulations from
Wendy and Bruce. John Mahaffy of Potato Hill in Boonville reaches his
81st birthday today, with happy wishes from his wife Marjorie. In 2004,
an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5 was centered near Massena.
Singer/songwriter, musician and actor Jerry Reed died on Monday at age
71. He suffered from emphysema and was under Hospice care. His number
one song, “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot,” may be his best remembered
song. He was Burt Reynolds' driving buddy in the “Smokey and the Bandit”
series of movies. He was a very talented guitar player, and worked with
Elvis, Waylon Jennings, and others.
- THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4:
Congratulations to Ben and Ciara Stocklosa of Boonville on the birth of
a daughter, Jazzmine Rose. She came into the world yesterday at 6
pounds, 12 ounces. The proud grandparents are Wayne and Patsy Robson and
Tom and Rene Stocklosa. Happy 86th birthday wishes to Bernice Hirschey
from her family and North Country friends. Bill Melendez, credited with
animating over 70 Charlie Brown and Peanuts’ TV specials and four
movies, died Tuesday at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California,
at the age of 91. He provided the voice of “Snoopy,” who you never could
understand. In 1997, the last Ford Thunderbird was produced in Lorain,
Ohio, but in later years the car was redesigned and offered to T-bird
lovers once again.
- FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5: Happy 21st
anniversary wishes to Bill and Doris Mack of Soft Maple from their
family. Comedian/actor Bob Newhart was born in Oak Park, Illinois, 79
years ago today. Actress Raquel Welch, a native of Chicago, Illinois,
celebrates her 68th birthday.
