George's Tid Bits
by George Capron

The following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on the air during the week of September 1st, 2008:

  • MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1 (LABOR DAY): What a beautiful day off for outdoor activities. Almost all reporting stations reached 75 degrees.

  • TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2: Happy 48th anniversary wishes to Barney and Bobbie Deshaies of Boonville from Michelle, Ron and family. Yesterday, Barry and Jody Croniser of Boonville celebrate their 29th anniversary, with congratulations from their family.

  • WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3: Happy 49th anniversary wishes on Friday to Dale and Barb Ferris of the Hogsback Road, Boonville, from Rich, Laurie and family. Marie Mooney of Lowville celebrates her 90th birthday today, with congratulations from Wendy and Bruce. John Mahaffy of Potato Hill in Boonville reaches his 81st birthday today, with happy wishes from his wife Marjorie. In 2004, an earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5 was centered near Massena. Singer/songwriter, musician and actor Jerry Reed died on Monday at age 71. He suffered from emphysema and was under Hospice care. His number one song, “When You’re Hot, You’re Hot,” may be his best remembered song. He was Burt Reynolds' driving buddy in the “Smokey and the Bandit” series of movies. He was a very talented guitar player, and worked with Elvis, Waylon Jennings, and others.

  • THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4: Congratulations to Ben and Ciara Stocklosa of Boonville on the birth of a daughter, Jazzmine Rose. She came into the world yesterday at 6 pounds, 12 ounces. The proud grandparents are Wayne and Patsy Robson and Tom and Rene Stocklosa. Happy 86th birthday wishes to Bernice Hirschey from her family and North Country friends. Bill Melendez, credited with animating over 70 Charlie Brown and Peanuts’ TV specials and four movies, died Tuesday at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 91. He provided the voice of “Snoopy,” who you never could understand. In 1997, the last Ford Thunderbird was produced in Lorain, Ohio, but in later years the car was redesigned and offered to T-bird lovers once again.

  • FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 5: Happy 21st anniversary wishes to Bill and Doris Mack of Soft Maple from their family. Comedian/actor Bob Newhart was born in Oak Park, Illinois, 79 years ago today. Actress Raquel Welch, a native of Chicago, Illinois, celebrates her 68th birthday.
