George's Tid Bits
by George Capron
The
following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during
his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on
the air during the week of August 11th, 2008:
- MONDAY, AUGUST 18: The Woodsmen’s
weekend had to be a huge success. On Saturday and Sunday, the Grandstand
and bleachers were filled to capacity. There was a record-breaking
attendance. Sadly, we remember this day because Sara Ann Wood
disappeared in 1993. Her remains have never been located. The star of
the movie, “Dirty Dancing,” Patrick Swayze, was born in Houston, Texas,
on today’s date in 1954.
- TUESDAY, AUGUST 19:
Congratulations to Zechariah and Heather Zehr of Lowville on the birth
of a son, August 14. Mason Eli weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and will join
a brother Conner at home. Best wishes from Mom and Pop. Gladys Nafziger
of Lowville celebrates her 80th birthday, and Robert and Lillian Steria
of Croghan celebrate their 36th anniversary, and their daughter and
son-in-law, Aleta and Andrew Zehr Jr. of Croghan, celebrate their 13th
anniversary. Today, Rick and Mary Failing of Constableville celebrate
their 30th anniversary, with best wishes from family and friends. Also,
Kevin and Jill Simpson celebrate their 30th anniversary, with
congratulations from Jeff, Hawley, Carla, and Caron. After worldwide
production of 15,458,781 vehicles, the last 1927 Model T rolled off the
Highland Park, Michigan, assembly line.
- WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 20: Happy
birthday to Matt Bush of Croghan, from Mom, Dad, and the Bushes. Matt
has won the Men’s Open Championship trophy 12 times during the NYS
Woodsmen’s Field Days. Good job, Matt. Happy birthday to Alice Campany
of Denmark, who celebrates her 76th birthday, with best wishes from
sister Ilene. The saxophone player in the Dave Matthew’s Band, LeRoi
Moore, 46, died yesterday in Los Angeles, CA. He was injured in an ATV
accident on his farm in Charlottesville, VA, in late June and never
fully recovered. In 1962, the first 1963 Ford Thunderbird was produced
for the model year.
- THURSDAY, AUGUST 21:
Congratulations to Jason and Beth Croniser of Boonville on the birth
yesterday of a daughter, Allison Katherine, weighing in at 7 pounds, 12
ounces. Best wishes from their families. President Dwight D. Eisenhower
signed a proclamation admitting Hawaii into the Union as the 50th state
in 1959. Singer-songwriter Jackie DeShannon was born in Hazel, KY, in
1944. She gave us a huge hit song, “What the World Needs Now (is love
sweet love).” Kenny Rogers was born in Houston, Texas, in 1938. He has
earned gold album status with 25 releases.
- FRIDAY, AUGUST 22: This evening
at 5:30 p.m., Leah Silliman and Eric Boek will be married at Constable
Hall in Constableville, with very best wishes from their families.
Tomorrow at 2 p.m., Chad Hutchins and Amanda Barnes will be married at
the Abundant Life Fellowship in Boonville. Wishing them blessings and

wishes from family and friends. Tom and Beula Beller of Route 126 near
Carthage observe their 57th anniversary on Saturday. Daughter Jean and
Carl Widrick, their grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren send
their love. Also on Saturday, Bub and Linda Hall of Castorland will
