George's Tid Bits
by George Capron
The
following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during
his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on
the air during the week of July 2nd, 2007:
- MONDAY, JULY 2: Congratulations
to David Hutchins and wife Maryellen Burr of Lowville on the birth
Saturday of a son, Dylan Thomas Hutchins, with best wishes from Grandma.
Today, Terry and Bea Seymour of Boonville celebrate their 47th
anniversary, with best wishes from their children and grandchildren.
Arnie Miller of Boonville reported frost on the grass along the Black
River Feeder Canal this morning. Highmarket had 35 degrees, with a
41-degree temperature in the Village of Boonville at 4:28 a.m. This
morning’s temperature of 42 degrees at the Merry Hill Weather Station
was the lowest reported on this day in the past 28 years. The first
Corvette, a white 1953, was produced in Flint, Michigan, on June 30,
1953, and on this day in 1992, the one-millionth Vette rolled off the
assembly line in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
- TUESDAY, JULY 3: A full moon last
Saturday night seems to bring new babies within days. We send
congratulations to Danny and Megan Hrim of Constableville on the birth
yesterday of a daughter, Jaycee, with best wishes from Grandpa and
Grandma, Cliff and Kim. Also, Merica Levesque and Pete DeVoe of
Boonville welcome a daughter to the family, born yesterday at 4 pound,
5-1/2 ounces. Congratulations from family and friends. Art and Marietta
Wright of Lake Delta in Rome celebrate their 57th anniversary, with best
wishes from Stanley and Betty. Happy 52nd anniversary to Arnold and Judy
Weber of Port Leyden from their family and friends. Al and Sheila Rucki
of Rome observe their 42nd anniversary, with best wishes from Dan and
Florence Hrim.
- WEDNESDAY, JULY 4: Holiday.
- THURSDAY, JULY 5: The new
flagpole in the Little Village Park was dedicated on tonight’s date in
2002, with a large crowd attending. Two years ago this morning from 4:50
to 5:35 a.m., a massive rainfall with thunder and lightning dropped .73
inches of rain in that short period. It was similar to the cloudburst at
the Lorrie Morgan concert at Boonville Fair on July 29, 2000. That storm
brought 1.60 inches with strong thunder and lightning. He was best known
for his hit song, “Yakety Sax” in 1963 and later worked in recording
studios appearing over 250 times. Boots Randolph died Tuesday in
Nashville at the age of 80 of a subdural hematoma. He was born in
Paducah, Kentucky, on June 3, 1927. In 1979, the morning low temperature
here at the station was 35 degrees and 2 inches of snow was measured at
Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks. A new bathing suit of two pieces
was introduced in Paris, France, in 1946, called a bikini, and they are
still found worldwide. Elvis Presley’s song, “That’s All Right Mama,”
was recorded in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1954 during his first commercial
recording session and became his first hit song.
- FRIDAY, JULY 6: Harley and Jean
Gleasman of Boonville celebrate their 50th anniversary today. It was
during their wedding reception at the Hulbert House when friends managed
to fire off the cannon in the Little Village Park. The cannon was later
plugged to prevent any future firings. Singer-actor Roy Rogers died in
Apple Valley, California, at the age of 86. It was 1957 at a church
picnic in Woolton, near Liverpool, England, when 15-year-old Paul
McCartney met John Lennon, then 16. A few years later the “Beatles” were
formed and the rest is history. The Beatles had more number one records
(20) than any other group in history. In 2002, the sky turned yellow
from the smoke of huge forest fires in Quebec, south of James Bay.
Tomorrow, Jason Stash and Ashley Ward will be married at St. Joseph’s
Church in Boonville, with best wishes from their families.
