George's Tid Bits
by George Capron
The
following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during
his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on
the air during the week of June 30th, 2008:
- MONDAY, JUNE 30: It wasn’t a good
day for outdoor activities on Saturday. heavy rains started around 11:30
a.m. and by Sunday morning, 2.05 inches was measured in the village and
another .30 was found this morning. The Sunday benefit for the Beasock
family was a huge success. Larry Kornatowski reported they served 850
dinners in three hours at the Boonville Elks Lodge, which hosted the
fund-raiser. Congratulations to Edwin and Jacqueline Mast of Croghan on
the birth Thursday of a son, Carson Leo Mast, who will join brother
Peyton at home. Mom and Dad Zehr are the proud grandparents. Happy 63rd
anniversary wishes to Edward and Irene O’Connor of Oriskany, from Bob
and Jean. They listen every morning to “The Moose.” Fred and John Beck
of Lyons Falls celebrate their 46th anniversary today, with best wishes
from family and friends. It was 14 years ago yesterday when I found
myself in St. Elizabeth Hospital after a heart attack. Since angioplasty
at the Albany Medical Center, I’ve had no reoccurring problems. At that
time, St. Elizabeth’s didn’t have a cardiac unit that could do the
procedure.
- TUESDAY, JULY 1: Happy 30th
anniversary to Rod and Suzy Baslow of Lons Falls, from George, Linda and
Peanut. Wolfmen Jack, the famous disc jockey featured in the movie
“American Graffiti,” died today in 1995. Actor-comedian Dan Aykroyd was
born in Ottawa, Canada, 56 years ago. One of his best remembered roles
was in “Ghostbusters.” Today would have been Princess Diana’s birthday,
as she was born in Sandringham, England, in 1961.
- WEDNESDAY, JULY 2: Happy 48th
wedding anniversary to Gary and Nancy Schneeberger of Glenfield from
their family and friends. Brenda and Stephen Dowling of West Leyden
celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary today, with congratulations and
happy wishes from family and friends. Corvette lovers may like to know
that the 1-millionth car rolled off the assembly line in Bowling Green,
Kentucky, in 1992.
- THURSDAY, JULY 3: Skeet and
Regina Crouse of Glenfield will celebrate their 59th anniversary today,
with best wishes from Rodney and Sue Hill. Happy anniversary to Ken and
Barb Slawson of Constableville on their 48th, from daughter Sue, Dale
and Josh. Singer Jim Morrison of the pop group, The Doors, died in Paris
in 1971 of heart failure. Actor Tom Cruise was born in Syracuse, NY, 46
