George's Tid Bits
by George Capron
The
following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during
his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on
the air during the week of June 9th, 2008:
- MONDAY, JUNE 9: The Best of
Boonville festivities on Saturday were very successful, even if it was
toasty warm. My village temperature reached 86 degrees on Saturday and
86 degrees on Sunday at 4:41 p.m. Yesterday, Betty Buckley of Schuyler
Street, Boonville, celebrated her 96th birthday, with best wishes from
neighbors George and Bev Wheelock. Son Chris always mowed her lawn
during his high school years. In Lee Center, Eugene and Rita Weibel

Louis of the Copenhagen area celebrate their 50th anniversary, with best
wishes from Rick and Colleen West and family. He built some famous
guitars in his lifetime and today, Les Paul counts up 96 candles on his

Wisconsin. One of Walt Disney’s most beloved characters, Donald Duck,
first appeared in a movie in 1934.

and family. Today, Ernie and Patsy Thornton of Webster Hill celebrate
their 58th anniversary, from all their family. Dale and Debbie Liddle of
Forestport walked out of the Boonville Baptist Church after their
wedding to find it snowing in 1972. It was 31 degrees at the Jackson
Hill Weather Station that morning. A New York broker and Ohio physician,
both recovering alcoholics, founded Alcoholics Anonymous in New York
City in 1935. It’s estimated that there are more than 80,000 local
groups in the country with close to 2 million members.
- WEDNESDAY, JUNE 11: A nasty storm
went through the area yesterday with heavy rain, high winds, and
lightning around 12:30 p.m. Here at the station, winds peaked at 37
miles per hour at 12:43 p.m. On the Rector Road, Rick Beyer clocked a
gust of 56 mph at 11:50 a.m. and said one of the wind turbines recorded
75 mph. Workmen are still restoring power to remaining areas this
morning. Today, Marion Shaw of the Croghan-Indian River area reaches a
young 87th birthday today, with best wishes from all her family. It was
this day in 1979 when cancer took the life of the late film actor John
Wayne. He is remembered for his western movies and appeared in over 250
films in four decades. He was married three times and had seven
children. Television newsman David Brinkley died today in 2003, one day
after his 82nd birthday in Houston, Texas. He was born on July 10 in
Wilmington, North Carolina.

Cox’s Hill at 7:30 last evening.

to Greg and Kate Bailey of Glenfield on the birth of a son, Leo Sage,
born yesterday, with best wishes from their families. At 12:31 a.m. this
morning, a son, Gage Michael, was born to Travis Hartley and Tricia
Steria of Lyons Falls, with congratulations from their families. Happy
49th anniversary wishes to Frosty and Mimi Bartelotte of Kayuta Lake
from Ron, Michelle, and family. Malcolm and Joanne Kellogg of Lowville
will celebrate their 44th anniversary today, with congratulations from
sister-in-law Judy. In weather history, in 1994 a tornado in Iowa
scooped up a doghouse with the dog inside and it was carried for several
blocks before settling on the ground. The dog wasn’t injured! Tomorrow,
