George's Tid Bits
by George Capron

The following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on the air during the week of May 28, 2008:

  • WEDNESDAY, MAY 28: I’m back to work after a restful fishing vacation at Lake Placid. At 1 a.m. Thursday morning, wet snowflakes were in the air and it was a cold windy week. Our group of diehard fisherman included Eric and Jake Pfendler of Boonville, Tommy and Colby Pfendler from Rochester, Bob Goppert from Missouri, Mark Hudon, Ricky Kipp, and “Chop” Ron Rondell, all of Old Forge, and Andy Seelman and myself of Boonville. We didn’t catch a lot of fish, but had a good time. Three births were reported this morning. First, congratulations to Shane and Cheryl Mooney of Forestport on the birth of a son, Aiden William, born Friday, May 23. Kyle and Jessica Widrick of Croghan welcomed a son, Winston Walter Widrick on Sunday. Monday evening, Rob Fruin and Raelyn Stinebrickner of Boonville had a son, Logan William Fruin, who joins a sister at home. Yesterday, Dick and Neva Jones of Brookside Senior Living Community of Lowville celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary, with best wishes from their family and friends.

  • THURSDAY, MAY 29: Congratulations to Eric Planck and Mallory Wiedrick on their upcoming wedding on Saturday, with love from their families. John and Francis Buneo of Port Leyden celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary today, with best wishes for many more from their five children. Happy 83rd birthday wishes to Alice Morin of Boonville from daughters Dianna and Debbie, and sons-in-law Dave and Bob. Comedian Bob Hope was born today in Eltham, England, in 1903, and was the fifth of seven brothers. He died in Tuluca Lake, California, at the age of 100 on July 27, 2003.

  • FRIDAY, MAY 30: Happy 88th birthday wishes to Eleanor Hoskins of Lyons Falls from husband Tom and all the family. Tomorrow Wanda Lewicki of Lowville will observe her 92nd birthday from her family and friends. At 2:40 p.m. this afternoon in 2006 a bolt of lightning struck the Chuckie Myers’ dairy farm on Route 12D, Boonville, completely destroying the structure. In 1901, the cannon in the Boonville Little Village Park was dedicated. As a prank, the cannon was fired during Harley and Jean Gleasman’s wedding reception on July 6, 1957 for the last time, as the barrel was later plugged. On tomorrow’s date in 2002, a small micro-burst struck the Rector Road area west of Martinsburg. Roofs were torn off and trees were uprooted, but there were no injuries reported. Comic actor Harvey Korman died yesterday at the UCLA Medical Center after complications of a rupture of the abdominal aortic aneurysm he suffered four months ago. He starred on the Carol Burnett Show in 1967 and co-starred in the movie “Blazing Saddles” in 1974.
