George's Tid Bits
by George Capron

The following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on the air during the week of May 19th, 2008:

  • MONDAY, MAY 19: On Saturday, Hank and Eileen Treen of Boonville celebrated their 50th anniversary, with best wishes from Ethel. Happy 29th anniversary wishes to Helen Hoffert from husband Terry. A tornado did touch down at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night near Camden. There was some damage, but no injuries. In 1976, Jackson Hill Weather Station reported 2-1/2 inches of snow above the 1,400 elevation this morning and 4-1/2 inches on tomorrow’s date. It was May 18, 1980, when at 8:32 a.m. Mount St. Helens in southwest Washington State erupted. Killed were 57 people, and 210 square miles of wilderness was destroyed.

  • TUESDAY, MAY 20: Happy 41st anniversary to Glen and Sharon Pominville of Glenfield, from their family and friends. Joan and Jerry McVoy celebrate their 47th anniversary from friends, Dick and Sandy Bush. In weather history, a tornado touched down southwest of Kansas City, killing 45 people. It was the worst weather disaster there on record, and there was one house that was destroyed. All that remained was a small table and a fish bowl on top with a fish still swimming in the bowl.

  • WEDNESDAY, MAY 21: Happy 42nd anniversary wishes to Sandy Reese of Port Leyden from husband Bob and from daughter Kristen, Darren, and from Dylan and Devan. Connecticut became the first state to put a speeding-driver law on the books in 1901. Drivers could not exceed 12 mph on county highways and 8 mph within city limits. In 1881, the American National Red Cross was established in Washington, DC, later to become the American Red Cross when given a U.S. charter in 1900. My annual spring vacation starts tomorrow for a one-week timeframe, so there will be no more reports until next week.
