George's Tid Bits
by George Capron

The following are excerpts from some of the calls that George received during his radio show on WBRV-WLLG The Moose, as well as observations he made on the air during the week of November 23rd, 2009:

  • MONDAY, NOVEMBER 23: Happy 52nd anniversary wishes to Bill Wheeler from
wife Darlene. The couple lives in Boonville.

Country music superstar, 19-year-old Taylor Swift, picked up five awards
last evening at the American Music Awards Show broadcast from Los Angeles. She took home awards, including favorite pop-rock female artist and favorite
    country album.

A new country music group, Gloriana, won the breakthrough artist of the
year award. Two members, Tom and Mike Gossin, are graduates of New Hartford Senior High School and started the group in 2007, and later added Rachel
Reinert and Cheyenne Kimball to fill the roster.

Miley Cyrus, daughter of Billy Ray Cyrus, was born Destiny Hope Cyrus in
Nashville 17 years ago and eventually starred in Disney’s show, ‘Hannah
    Montana.’

A massive lake-effect snowstorm started on November 22 ending at 3 a.m. on
the 24th in 1976. The Jackson Hill Weather Station measured 52” of snowfall,
settling to 36” on the ground.

  • TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 24: Happy 47th anniversary wishes to Mary Grenier of
Lyons Falls from husband Will and from their family.

Robert Riegler of West Branch celebrates his 92nd birthday today and his
wife Sophia celebrated her 87th on Friday, November 20, with best wishes from
    Chuck and Karen Williamson.

I was honored to be installed as a Trustee of the Boonville Lodge of Elks
#2158 last evening during their monthly meeting. I have been a member for 33
    years.

In 1958, Decca Records released Brenda Lee’s classic Christmas song,
“Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” for the first time. She was 14 years old at
the time, and the song is heard each year on radio stations around the world.

  • WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25: Warren and Sandy Ebersol of Castorland will
celebrate their 48th anniversary with congratulations from their family and friends.

Santa’s reindeer arrived at the little village park yesterday morning at 11
a.m. One is mostly white and has beautiful antlers. Santa must be proud of
    him.

We thank Leon and Wanda Bowen for their gift of a beautiful wreath, which
they delivered yesterday. They bring the station a holiday wreath each year
    and it is appreciated.

At 6:46 p.m. this evening in 1988, an earthquake rated at 6.4 was felt from
Quebec with damage and rattled as far as Washington, D.C.

  • THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 26: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
